George Golden
November 20, 1943 - February 7, 2022
George Golden was born on November 20, 1943 to Dan and Melva Golden in Pendleton Oregon. He passed away on February 7th, 2022 at the age of 78 while in the care of PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. George is survived by his wife of 36 years, April Golden, his 4 children, Simon, Ella, Mozelle, and Shaina and 2 grandsons, Elias and Tiran.
George was a strong believer in community service as the Founder & Director of the Non-Profit LINKS and spent the last 13 years distributing food, toys, and school supplies to those in need throughout the Clark County area. He was a member of several service organizations including the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 321, The Forty and Eight, 99 Voiture Locale, The American Legion Post #0014, Elks Lodge 823, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, and General Steering Committee Member for the annual Clark County Prayer Breakfast.
He was recognized several times for his non-profit work, receiving The President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2018, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Certificate in 2020 and many letters of appreciation.
During the last decade George was a spiritual leader in the community, speaking at prayer breakfasts, leading Passover Seders for local congregations, and spreading peace and compassion with the community groups that he served.
George will be attended by his family and laid to rest in the Willamette National Cemetery, as a proud Air Force Veteran, on February 11th, 2022. In the coming weeks, a memorial service at Heritage Church NW will be announced for friends and family to celebrate George Golden’s life. His memory lives on in the hearts and actions of his surviving family who carry his love and compassion forward. His service to the lives of those in need acts as an inspiration for others to continue his work and serve our communities.
Summary and History of Links
LINKS was begun as the vision of George Golden who serves as CEO. Because serving the poor is a passion, he is actively involved in all aspects of this service.
LINKS has been working to serve our community and those in need in a number of ways since 2009. LINKS volunteers have been involved in the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast for many years and the Vancouver All Church Picnic for three years.
Our Vision To Assist by Linking
LINKS began as a community service project serving with the assistance of local businesses, churches and non-profit charities. It was brought together to respond to the need for emergency food for families. We have been able to see this happen as we served law enforcement agencies and school districts to meet the needs of our neighbors in crisis situations.
The Food Program
The food program brings a healthy assortment of food to families and individuals in emergency situations. LINKS provides food resources in two different ways:
First, we supply community service organizations with a stock of food boxes they can use to meet emergency needs. These organizations include local Schools, local Law Enforcement, Veterans’ organizations, local Churches, and more. This enables the staff to directly provide food to families in an emergency. LINKS will replenish the organization’s supply, at their request, without any paperwork or delay.
Second, Links supplies food for immediate needs to individual families in emergency and crisis.
Day Shelter
Perishable foods (i.e. sandwiches and salads) are given to day shelters such as Share House, Open House, Friends of the Carpenter, Freedom House and Clark County Veterans Center.
Military
We also service our active military at USO at Portland Airport and the Army Service Center which serves active Army, National Guard, Marine Corp, and Navy with food for their needs which is not supplied.
Demonstrating the love of God in practical ways to individuals and families in emergency and crisis.
Recent example: December 2020, LINKS picked up toys from the Fox 12 toy drive. He then delivered them to the Elks and other for distribution. LINKS was the "link" between a source (i.e. Fox 12 toy drive) and distribution to those in need (Elks)
